On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the polished regalia of high-level civic leadership was shattered in a Venice, California, residence. Jeremy Ferguson — a prominent Director of Operations for Downtown Santa Monica and former Mayor of Milwaukie, Oregon — was found dead alongside his wife, Mandy Zelinka.

The details of the police report are chilling. After Ferguson emailed a haunting suicide note to a friend containing specific instructions on how to access their Superba Avenue home, authorities discovered both with fatal gunshot wounds. The L.A. County Medical Examiner has since ruled the tragedy a murder-suicide: Mandy’s life was stolen in a homicide; Jeremy’s ended by his own hand. While the investigation remains active, law enforcement has explicitly stated that no motive has been disclosed in this specific case.

To the public, Jeremy was a "cherished team member" and a "champion for the city". But as we peel back the layers of this tragedy, we find a different story — one told by Mandy herself, a woman who dedicated her life to the radical honesty of body freedom.

The Real Mandy: Founder of the Skinny Dippers Club

While the headlines focused on Jeremy’s civic resume, Mandy Zelinka was an architect of "free-range" safety. As the founder of the Skinny Dippers Club, she built a sanctuary where people could "take the plunge" into naturism and finally feel comfortable in their own skin.

Mandy wasn't just "skinny dipping"; she was a visionary activist fighting for "physical space for our community" and building a Global Naturist Alliance. She was a woman who saw through the social "fences" and wanted everyone to join her in a state of body-positive freedom. Her mission was the very essence of what we do at The Naked Truth: stripping away shame to find the unvarnished reality of the human experience.

The "Unvarnished" Truth: Insights from Tumblr

Mandy was remarkably transparent about the reality behind their closed doors. In her Tumblr posts, she spoke of the "toxic sides" of her own personality and the ADHD struggles both she and Jeremy navigated. She painted a picture of a man who was "peeling the onion" of workplace discrimination by day, but who was often too "busy" to truly inhabit the safe community she had built.

In a heartbreakingly ironic post, Mandy wrote about "helping him tell his stories" while he cooked her dinner. She saw his work as a hiring manager protecting 300 employees as an extension of their shared values. She believed they were both fighting for the same "unvarnished" world. Tragically, it appears Jeremy was wearing the ultimate mask: a costume of protection that hid a capacity for ultimate destruction.

The Final Tribute: Beyond the Shadow of Leadership

The tragedy of Mandy Zelinka is the theft of a vibrant, "non-conformist" voice. Her family has been clear: "Mandy was a force of nature... her life was stolen from her by someone she trusted".

At The Naked Truth, we believe that being "comfortable in your skin" requires more than just removing your clothes — it requires the safety to be vulnerable without fear. We often celebrate the "prominent official" while the person actually doing the work of human liberation is reduced to a footnote.

Mandy Zelinka’s legacy is the courage of her life. She was a woman who wasn't afraid to risk failure in pursuit of her "big ideas." As we continue our mission, we carry her spirit with us. We will continue to peel the onion, strip away the costumes, and fight for a world where the sun shines on everyone — equally, safely, and without the need for masks.
