A Beautiful Autumn Day!

It was great to host Richard for a day on the Kaiaua Coast today.

We met at the Southern end of Ray's Rest free-camping site with the intention of a naked walk along the shell bank where the migrating birds are leaving from. However the temperature had dropped to 17 degrees, from yesterday's 23, and there was also a nippy sou-westerly breeze adding to the chill factor. So we opted to head up to Waharau Regional Park with a plan to return to the beach later in the day.

After a short bush walk up the Waharau Ridge Track and back, we found an awesome grassy clearing, sheltered from the wind. An ideal place to stop for lunch and take a few pics. It was such a quiet peaceful spot and we must have sat there chatting for an hour and solving the world's problems!

The tide at the beach was due to be high by 2:45, so headed back down to the shell-bank beach for another photo shoot and a swim. A lady who walked past must have thought we were crazy to brave the rather chilly water. But - you know what they say - once you get under . . .

Thanks, Richard, for your company on such an awesome day!

If anyone else would like to visit this fabulous coastline, just let me know. I'm more than happy to share it with you!

Thank you Rok for a brilliant day. So pleasant to go from the Manuka reserve to the coast and explore that area. I did wonder what the woman thought as she wandered past dressed up for a blizzard. And here are these two nutcases thinking it was time for a Swim? It did make me smile. Thank you again. I look forward to the next adventure perhaps as you suggested with a few more folk.
