WINTER SOLSTICE 2022 - Polar Plunge
Winter Solstice (the shortest day) is on Tuesday, June 21st. We traditionally celebrate the event with a quick skinny dip right on high tide. Last year we went to Hot Water Beach up the Eastern Coromandel Coast, only to find that the beach had been seriously affected by storm surges that had washed the sand level right down. It's also a long way to travel for many.
So, what about this year? My thinking is a beach like Kuranui Bay Reserve in Thames (see pic below). It is the most central spot for the majority of our local members - around 90 minutes equally from Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, and the Coromandel East Coast.
High tide at Kuranui Bay will be 12:44 p.m. and a nice spot for a BBQ lunch and a glass of wine straight after the plunge.
The alternative would be to leave it up to folks to arrange their own meet-up in their own area.
What does everyone think? Please comment below.
I don't need to know that Tuesday is no good for you - that's fixed by the universe and can't be changed! Just comment about the idea itself and if you CAN make it.

Short answer, No. Bevan went to Long Bay but nobody else, so he went for a walk around to Pohutukawa Bay. Jamie and Murray may have gone to Waihi Beach - not sure. Seems most people were either working or just not into it.
