Tarawaere Dam Hike
If you've never experienced hiking naked through a rain forest, next Saturday will be your chance!
You're invited to join us on a hike in the Kauaeranga Forest, Tarawaere Dam track next Saturday, April 10. This track requires a moderate level of fitness. There are a few steep bits but not long and sustained like some of the other tracks. We start out at the Kauaeranga River and ascend up the Eastern side of the loop to reach the dam, then descend back down the Western side. It takes about 3 hours. The weather is looking rainy at this stage, but that just adds to the experience! The exercise will keep you warm, but bring a jacket if you wish. Wear sneakers or walking shoes. You'll also want to bring insect repellent, a bottle of water, and something to nibble on.

So, as it turned out, only two of us took advantage of this small excursion into the magnificent Kauaeranga valley. An overcast day and some drizzle, which doesn't reach you under the forest canopy, made for a very comfortable air temperature for a hike. A really pleasant walk.
