NEXT MOOP WALK - Pukorokoro
We're due for another coastal cleanup walk towards the end of the month. We look after the stretch of Pukorokoro coastline along the chénier shellbank from Ray's Rest to the Robert Findlay Wildlife Reserve.
Now is the time of year when more than 4,000 Godwits and over 1,000 Red Knots return from the Arctic to spend our summer feeding up on the mudflats. They're joined by other local migratory birds and permanent Pukorokoro residents.
We're looking at possibly Sunday 19th, Saturday 25th or Sunday 26th starting around 11-ish (or whatever time suits the majority). We'll be collecting MOOP (Material Out Of Place) such as fishing line, fishing net, mussel farm rope, and plastic and other waste that is all hazardous to the shorebirds.
Please let me know in the comments if you'd like to join us and which of the three dates works for you.
Clothing is optional, but you'll need footwear that you don't mind getting wet. We'll be providing rubbish sacks and other gear. Any questions - please ask in the comments.
Hope to see you there!

Ok, so it's looking nice for tomorrow, so I'll be heading out there, if anyone wants to join me. 11 a.m. at Ray's Rest. I will bring plenty of rubbish sacks. It's low tide at midday, so won't be any swimming, but you'll likely get a look at varieties of shorebirds feeding.
If you can't make it tomorrow, I'll be going out again same time next weekend.
Here's where we meet . . .
