Omanawanui Hike.
Following on from the recent Te Henga walk, a couple of us decided to make best use of the current spell of good weather and plan for another hike on Tuesday 13th June. You are invited!
We propose to do the Omanawanui track on the Whatipu Rd, starting from the top and returning the same way after reaching the peak. The views from the track and the peak of the Manukau, the heads and Whatipu far below are truly spectacular.
Should time and inclination permit, we could then proceed up to Mt Donald McLean via the Puriri Ridge track, which starts opposite the Omanawanui track, about 1.2 km past the Mt Donald McLean road junction.
A reasonable level of fitness is suggested.
As parking is limited at the trail heads, we can carpool from the carpark at the far end of Huia Beach (just before the bridge) and leave from there at 10.30am, to start on the track around 11. So please make sure you are at the carpooling spot before 10:30 a.m.
Bring lunch, drink, suitable footwear and need for adventure!
Any questions? Contact @Neil B or @Raymond Vogt for any further info.

This was really a day to be remembered, and it demonstrated our adaptability to go clothes free in a temperature of around 12° (at least while exercising). So sunny winter excursions are to be welcomed, with the added advantage of having the outdoors largely to ourselves.
