Great morning at Waiotapu last Saturday. First

Lake Rotowhero
Lake Rotowhero

, stop Lake Rotowhero. Have swum here before but water was a bit cool. Great steamy lake though would be good to explore on SUP or kayak.

Next Kerosene creek, only one other person there, a photographer with all the gear getting shots of sun through the trees. Not very talky, I stripped of and hopped in, he glanced over and carried on. Water only luke warm, local said it has been that way for a month or 2, maybe to much rain.

Plenty of steam, not much hot.

Next is what Sally Jackson in Hot Springs of NZ. calls Waterfall Spout Bath. A road on the left off the loop rd. ( Past the mud pools roads) Was locked , Sally says the pool is about 5oo meters down this rd. I had a nosey behind the large Danger Keep out sign and found a well used track. A short walk led to a magnificent natural spa pool, 40 degrees ish. Trouble is I couldn't really relax as the sign also said Trespassers Prosecuted, although highly unlikely. This is a diffeerent pool than the one in the book but well used.

Next hot and cold stream. Lots of Māori kids and parents, so togs here as I have had trouble before, the BWATC trip. Hot stream nicely warm though.
