NATURIST BIKE RIDE - Saturday, 19th MARCH

Hi there, Fellow Cyclists!

We're a week out from our WNBR Substitute cycle ride along the Hauraki Rail Trail from Paeroa to Waikino and back. Here are the details for those who wish to join us . . .

MEET in PAEROA at the Rotokohu Sports Ground carpark, corner of Rotokohu Road and Te Aroha Road (SH 26), directly opposite Ministry of Development buildings.

DATE: Next Saturday, 19th March

TIME: Meet at 10:15 to 10:30 a.m. We'll start riding at 10:30 a.m.

THE RIDE: We join the Rail Trail at the Rotokohu Sports Ground carpark. For the first 1.5 Km the track follows alongside Rotokohu Road. You may feel more comfortable wearing shorts or something for this section, but that's not essential - it's entirely up to you. In fact the whole ride is "clothing optional", so it's up to you what you wear and when you wear it. The important thing is that you have a pleasant ride at your level of comfort.

The trail carries on across farmland for a couple of kilometers before reaching the Ohinemuri River, which we then follow through the Karangahake Gorge to the Victoria Gold Mining Battery at Waikino There are a few good swimming spots along the way.

There are two options for lunch at Waikino . . .

1. Pack some picnic lunch to eat at a nice spot at the Victoria Battery. There's acres of grass there so no need to dress for lunch.

2. Carry on a few hundred meters past the Victoria Battery to the Waikino Station Cafe and buy some lunch there. For this option you'll need to put clothes on, wear a face mask and carry your "My Vaccine Pass" to enter the Cafe.

WHAT TO BRING . . .

* Your bike and helmet.

* Some picnic lunch, or buy some at the Station Cafe. If you buy lunch you also need clothes, face mask, and vaccine pass.

* Sun lotion and insect repellent.

* A cycle lamp is recommended for the 1 Km Karangahake Tunnel. There is some lighting in the tunnel, but it's quite dim and a bike lamp would be great if you have one.

The return trip is a little quicker as it's slightly downhill all the way. We should be back in Paeroa around 3:30-ish

More info about this cycle route is on our website HERE

Any questions? Don't hesitate to ask!

See you Saturday!
